Music

Choir practice – Monday, 7pm

New members always welcome.

Liturgy is one of the most central parts of life in any parish community. It should reflect, prayerfully, the cycle of the Church’s year and respond to the needs of the parish. This year has shown that that is possible by the coming together of parishioners in an understanding of what liturgy is: praise of God and entreaty in times of need. The Keep In Touch group has been instrumental in leading the parish at such times this year.

It is important that liturgical events are not filled with readings, prayers and music throughout but has time for reflection to enable people offer up prayer in silence. During the Liturgy of the Mass one thing is paramount: anything ‘added’ to the liturgy must not hinder the flow of prayer ie when the celebrant is ready then it is time for music or speaking to cease (don’t keep the priest waiting!) Prayers and music outwith set texts must connect with the theme and contribute to the richness of the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Everyone can play a part. There is a need for more readers, for Eucharistic Ministers in order to enable the smooth running of Liturgy in all it’s forms. Liturgy does not simply ‘happen’. Those who have responsibility in the organisation of Liturgy must take time to reflect, to call on others to help and take time to prepare, as fully as possible, so that any experience in the Church is meaningful. It takes commitment and prayer and we ask for your assistance with suggestions or comments as to how you think the liturgy can become more relevant to you daily lives.

If you have time or a talent which can be used please speak to Mgr Drysdale, Miss Susan Cassidy (organist), or to someone in the Keep In Touch group. We are moving forward but more bodies are needed in order to ensure that liturgy is the most meaningful it can be.
