28th Sunday of the Year A: On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. The wedding feast or a banquet of rich food and choicest wine, according to the first reading is turned down or treated as not important by the invitees in the gospel reading. This attitude of the invitees to the great feast is what the call to the kingdom life receives in most cases. God has called his people to salvation through his Son Jesus Christ. The foretaste of the feast of the Lamb is the Eucharist. The invitation is for every creature under heaven. We all have access to salvation in Christ Jesus. We have been invited and the response needed is urgent. Do we respond? The response to the invitation to the life of heaven is determined by the perception of each individual. What counts as important to a person conditions their course of action. For those who do not believe that the good each person brings to bear makes for the general good, they go ahead to rob everyone of peace and fair treatment by their self-centred mindset. This is the challenge we deal with in the world. The life of love, joy and peace we hold within and live out improves the general good. May we then respond promptly to the call to holiness made to everyone beginning from the family and the Church.
